It was a year ago when Nelson woman Jeanine Brunwin was forced to fly to Wellington Hospital to give birth to her twin girls. But after a week, all three of them were transferred back to Nelson Hospital. There she spent six weeks with newborns Riley and Imogin before they were discharged on New Year’s Eve.
On Tuesday 17 November, at Nelson Hospital, Brunwin joined neonatal staff, other parents with children who were born early and the women who knit clothes for them to celebrate World Prematurity Day. Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) charge nurse manager Maureen Higgs said more than 200 babies passed through the neonatal unit at Nelson Hospital each year.
