Julia Carter, a New Zealander who is living in Australia, was just 24 weeks pregnant with twins when she went into labour while on holiday in Nelson, just before Christmas. Her twins were supposed to be born in Australia this month. Instead they were born in Wellington Hospital in December and they must stay in Wellington until they’re big and strong enough to travel.

Since the Campbell Live story went to air the couple have had a change of plans. Rather than trying to get back to Australia immediately, when they no longer require the specialist care from Wellington, Willem and Elijah will instead first head back to Nelson. Once strong enough and their lungs are further developed they will then return to Australia. At the time of writing, the twins are still in the Wellington NICU and today is infact their initial due date (14th April 2014).
While they dont need the original $50,000 figure required to get the twins back to Australia under specialist care, Bart remains on leave without pay. so the family currently has no income.
