Wellington NICU Graduate aims to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro!
Hi – my name is Alyce Gibson. I am a 1989 Graduate of the Wellington Hospital NICU.
I am currently a student at the University of Westminster in London, studying for a Masters in Journalism.
This August (2012) I am going to be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Kenya, for charity. It is something that I have wanted to do for many years now and when the opportunity presented itself to me, I couldn’t turn it down.
The charity I will be climbing for is called ‘Dig Deep’ (http://digdeep.org.uk/). Dig Deep helps provide sustainable solutions to problems faced by communities in Kenya, such as helping to provide clean water.
The charity works with local communities and governments, as well as with other charities to accomplish their goals.
Projects include digging boreholes and shallow wells to create clean water. This not only improves the quality of health, but also means that girls in the communities can be educated as they no longer have to travel long distances to get clean water.
Climbing Mt. Kili for Dig Deep, in my opinion, is a great cause. The catch is I have to fundraise in order to do this. On my own I have to raise £2,600, and with the group of others I am climbing with, have to raise the same amount again. All together we are aiming to raise at least £30,000 for the charity.
I’d be extremely grateful to anyone who decides to support not just me, but this great cause.
Thank you very much in advance 🙂

Thanks so much for sharing your personal story!
We get a lot of positive feedback from families in a neonatal unit who read these stories and feel strength, hope and positivity knowing that they are not alone going through these experiences and feeling certain emotions.
If you would like to discuss sharing the story of your neonatal journey, we’d love to hear from you.

If you want to help our support of families going through the stress and anxiety of a neonatal journey, you can donate via the link below.
- The Little Miracles Trust provides support to families of premature or sick full-term babies as they make their journey through Neonatal Intensive Care, the transition home, and onwards. We do not receive any Government funding and are entirely reliant on the generosity of individuals, companies and organisations in the form of donations, value-in-kind donations, grants, sponsorship and fundraising events to supplement operating costs and fund our services and initiatives.
