Epsom Girls Grammar School supports The Little Miracles Trust

As told by Epsom Girls Grammar School

The Little Miracles Trust was supported by Epsom Girls Grammar School’s Student Council who through a variety of activities, raised a total of $2,152.80 for The Trust. The Council organised a week of activities with the goal of promoting awareness for the cause, as well as raising money to support the charity. There was finger painting open to the school on Monday, a fundraising concert on Tuesday, knitting groups on Wednesday and Thursday and finally, a pyjama-Epsom 1.jpegthemed Mufti Day on Friday for a gold coin donation.

It was amazing to hear both students and staff across Epsom Girls bringing up such important issues throughout discussions, and to see them involved in the range of activities across the week. Epsom Girls Grammar is really proud to have had the opportunity to achieve amazing work for such an incredible charity, embracing our values of community, compassion, courage and curiosity.

The Knitting groups were a highlight of the week as girls from Years 9 to 13, drawn by the incentive of free hot chocolate, came and knitted during lunchtime. Students with prior knitting skills came along, as well as keen students willing to try a new activity in support of our community. As a school, we have specially made a collection of tiny hats, vests, boots and blankets to be donated for the premature and special care babies.

Another exciting moment of the week was our big fundraiser, the Mufti Day. It was both awesome and inspiring to see so many students getting involved, dressing up in their pyjamas to correlate with the sentiments of babies, while also donating towards a worthwhile cause. Neonatal Trust stickers were worn by the school, uniting the school in the collective promotion of the charity.

The week opened the eyes of many students, staff and parents in sight of the amazing work the Little Miracles Trust does, and we would like to give a big thank you to Rachel Friend for her help in organising the School’s collaboration with the charity.

Benefits of knitting

Knitting and crocheting are often associated with friends and family. The craftwork in progress may be intended for a loved one or perhaps it is being created while in the company of friends, family or a social knitting group. Knitting is a fantastic hobby for individuals and the basic stitches are very easy to pick up.

The act of knitting is recommended to peoples of all genders and ages as it provides unexpected benefits for both physical and mental health – with the enjoyment and satisfaction factors on top of this.

Here are 5 things to know about knitting:
•    It can help with managing stress, anxiety, and depression
•    It keeps your brain healthy
•    It can help your motor skills
•    It is a meditative act
•    It instils pride upon completion
