Premature baby 'size of £10 note' defies odds, starts school
A premature baby boy who was born the size of a £10 note has defied the odds to start his first day of school.
Levi Phipps, 3 and from the UK, weighed just 900 grams (2lbs) when he was born eight weeks prematurely by emergency caesarean in October 2011.
He spent the first two months of his life in hospital where he required emergency surgery to fix three holes in his heart and had a feeding tube fitted.
He has also battled numerous seizures and infections, operations to treat a twisted bowel and has low blood pressure.
Because of his early birth, Levi is just half the size of other toddlers his age, weighing just 8.8kg (1.4 stone).
But despite his earlier health battles, the youngster has amazed his family and medics by starting mainstream school.
