Sela

Family Support Coordinator – Middlemore

Born and raised in Māngere, South Auckland, Sela is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Social Work. She and her husband, Atu, are proud parents of six children. Their youngest, Adaliyah, was born on 24 March 2024 at 33 weeks’ gestation and spent the first four months of her life in NICU.

During their first week in NICU, Adaliyah was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, a condition that affects her ability to swallow and take anything orally. Their NICU journey was far from easy, but throughout their time in the unit they received incredible support from the NICU team, with Little Miracles regularly checking in as well. Today, Adaliyah is growing stronger and continues to thrive each day.

After what felt like a lifetime in NICU, she was deeply moved by the support their family received. That experience inspired her to give back to the community and walk alongside other families navigating their own NICU journeys. She feels truly blessed to now have the opportunity to support whānau during such a significant and vulnerable time in their lives.
