Our son Walter John Remo Coombs came into this world and surprised us 12 weeks early as a 28 weeker weighing only 870g and 33cm long. He just couldn’t wait to be part of the family so he insisted on coming early.
We had no idea what we had in-store for ourselves and what awaited us over the next 14 weeks and we didn’t think we would manage. But our son pushed and grew and showed us that he wanted to be here and he inspired us so much during our time in NICU/SCBU that he gave us strength to be the best parents we could be and we are so grateful for his assistance.
From him and everyone around us, The Little Miracles Trust, to the nurses, right through to the lovely ladies in the kitchen supplying us with lunches everyday in the hospital. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without everyone.
My wife and I just want to say that it’s ok to be scared, worried and anxious while you on this journey, but be strong and enjoy each positive moment as it comes. Our son was born early, but now 7 months from birth date he is living his best life and has made his way across to South Africa to meet his grandparents, something we were worried was not going to happen. But here we are.
Thank you to everyone and to those on your NICU/SCBU journey right now reading this – It will be ok and one day it will hopefully all be a distant memory.
