Franky Wang never expected his son Jeremy, to be worn at 29 weeks and five days gestation.   Jeremy spent the first eight weeks of his life in intensive care, now the Hobsonville resident is sharing his son’s health journey to encourage the Chinese community to support pre-term birth research.  

“I’ve been there and I’ve seen how families struggle,” he said.

He said cultural norms stopped Chinese people from talking about health-related issues.

“They don’t want to expose to the public about what has happened to their little ones,” Wang said.

It was important that research was undertaken to find out how best to support parents in the first weeks with a premature baby in order to keep families together, Wang said.
