Five-year-old Bella Topp was the same size as her favourite dolly when she first came into the world.  Born 14 weeks early, Bella was about 35cm long – the distance from her mother Katrina’s fingertips to halfway up her forearm.

Bella has now grown into a happy and healthy toddler who was fascinated to see her dolly put into the incubator on show at Nelson Hospital’s morning tea event yesterday.  The tea was held to acknowledge World Prematurity Day, an event held internationally on November 17 to focus attention on premature birth.
